StriVectin latest launch S.T.A.R. Light Retinol Night Oil is at the forefront of unrivalled and results-driven skincare.
With science at its core, StriVectin is built on pioneering, cutting edge and clinically proven technology. The story began when two biomedical researchers discovered the now patented NIA-114 molecule…
An optimized form of niacin/vitamin B3 clinically proven to strengthen the skin’s barrier and supercharge the performance of other ingredients for visibly transformed and youthful skin. Now with the fusion of NIA-114 and powerful plant-based botanicals, you can defend against harmful stressors and allow your skin’s natural glow to shine through.
With over 35 years of research, 30 independent clinical studies, 90 global patents and 150 published papers, StriVectin really is a skincare force to be reckoned with.
Retinol is the “holy grail and gold standard” when it comes to resurfacing the skin, but now retinol has been reimagined. New S.T.A.R. Light Retinol Night Oil is a fusion of StriVectin’s patented NIA-114 technology with biomimetic retinol and nourishing botanicals delivering the power of retinol without irritation, transforming the skin whilst you sleep.
S.T.A.R. Light Retinol Night Oil is lightweight, non-greasy, and smells wonderful.
Retinol is certainly a beauty buzzword but what results can you expect to see? Working to correct the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, textured and uneven skin tones, retinol also helps to reduce the appearance of pigmentation and/or liver (age) spots. As with any skincare product you’ll need to be patient – our skin renews itself in a four-week cycle (on average), and it’s not until those newly nourished cells rise to the surface that we are able to see any visible change. Continue to use for at least four weeks and beyond for best results.
How S.T.A.R. Light Retinol Night Oil works…
StriVectin claims “biomimetic retinol mimics the skin’s natural processes to better receive the transformational benefits of retinol. Powerful ingredients including plant-derived squalane and Chia seed oils moisturise the skin with essential fatty acids. Astaxanthin and pro-anthocyanidins are two of the most powerful antioxidants to soothe and protect dry skin. NIA-114 helps to limit skin sensitivity which is common in retinol use”.
Forget anti-ageing, “anti” anti-ageing, replaces the outdated term with a new approach to ageing. “Wrinkles haven’t changed, but how we get them has” StriVectin empowers women to outsmart ageing with solutions to help them look and feel the best they can – at any age.
I’m a devotee of looking the best you can for one’s age and I always go by the theory that when it comes to our skin, prevention is better than cure. However, there’s always room for improvement and it’s never too late to start. Sure, you can fork out rather large chunks for an invasive salon resurfacing treatment, leaving you red-faced for a while but now you can go some way to do the same, albeit far less invasive, in the comfort of your own home.
Make your beauty sleep work harder and let S.T.A.R. Light Retinol Night Oil replenish, nourish and transform your skin whilst you sleep.
What I love about S.T.A.R. Light Oil that it is indeed an overnight “skin treatment” and whilst I’d always recommend using retinol at bedtime, some prefer to use it throughout the day instead. Of course, nighttime is preferable as not only does skin become more vulnerable and sensitive to the sun’s harmful rays during use, sunlight causes retinol to become unstable and lose its strength if you will.
Let’s look at “retinization”
Whilst StriVectin’s S.T.A.R. Light oil has been formulated with NIA-114 to keep irritation/sensitivity minimal, I want to touch on retinization. To help you better understand, this is a process your skin may go through when starting your retinol journey; it’s the cause of those unwanted effects and becomes apparent whilst your skin is adjusting. Effects are generally in the form of dryness, flaking, reddening and possibly breakouts in varying degrees for each individual. This isn’t so much of a problem for your skin per se as it’s a normal part of the process and in some ways is to be expected.
My skin is regularly exposed to new skincare finds including all manner of lotions and potions. Get my take on StriVectin’s Advanced facial acids.
I wasn’t expecting any adverse reaction to S.T.A.R. Light Retinol Night Oil and after patch testing it, I went ahead and used the product as directed each night at bedtime (avoiding the eye area). StriVectin recommends using its award-winning advanced Eye Cream along with S.T.A.R. Light Night Oil for “overnight success”.
If you prefer, you can layer your usual night-time moisturiser with the oil. It applies orange in colour but transforms to colourless after a few moments, so it won’t stain bedding.
After three nights I began seeing a little reddening of my skin on waking, particularly over my chin area along with the odd breakout around my nose. As previously mentioned, this wasn’t a problem as such, albeit a little unexpected. However, to reduce further sensitivity from sunlight I made sure to slather on my facial SPF each day and soothed my skin with appropriate products.
S.T.A.R. Light Retinol Night Oil is for home use so you’ll need to remain realistic about results and certainly, don’t expect a miracle solution. That said, for the considered price point of £79 for 30ml you’ll want to see some kind of change in your skin, so, let’s look at what I personally found.
The first few days – no issues or change noted at all.
After three days – slight red/patchy areas and a few little breakouts on waking which settled over the course of the day. Skin felt dryer than usual, this is a normal response and again, part of the process.
After around two weeks – (of nightly use), my skin appeared to adjust – this is normal, and part of the retinization process I mentioned above.
The following weeks – not much change to be seen, however, now after four weeks I’m just starting to see a little more plumpness and a small reduction in enlarged pores, mainly across my forehead where I would say it’s more noticeable. I had high hopes for this bottle of oil, and finally, the results are visible.
Retinol will always have a place within my skincare routine and undoubtedly remain the gold standard within the beauty industry, but what about you? Is retinol part of your skincare routine? Have you tried S.T.A.R. Light Retinol Night Oil? I’d love to know about your results!

It really is different. I’ve used retinol products before, but not in an oil formulation. Just using a few drops allows it go on and on! x
Thank you for this post! It would seem that I had given up too quickly on retinol. I just hated the way my skin looked. I realise now I should have waited a bit longer.

That’s the issue. It’s so easy to give up because our skin always looks worse for a while. With this oil the effects are limited but I still found some irritation. x
Thank you for this post. I had not been patient through the retinization process. I should have waited a bit longer.
I never heard of this product before! Thanks for sharing such an in-depth review of it!

This is really interesting to read, Samantha! It sounds like retinol is something you need to have patience with and persevere even if you can’t see any immediate results. It’s great that after 4 weeks you are starting to see a positive difference! It looks like this is product worth investing in, and a little goes a long way. Thank you for sharing, I always enjoy learning about the science behind how things work and your posts are always packed with interesting information! <3 xx

I’m so pleased you found it an interesting read! Patience is key with retinol and it’s all too easy to want to stop but if you keep going things get better! Have a lovely evening! x
This is such a wonderful and informative post! I’ve never heard of retinol before, but I am definitely curious about it now. Thank you so much for sharing!

Thank you so much. It’s good to hear you’ve discovered retinol! It’s an interesting one, for sure!
Love all the sciencey stuff in this post! I’ve only ever tried one retinol product before, by La Rosay-Posay, and it came with a warning leaflet about using in the sun, etc. That was a good couple of years ago, and I think it put me off trying other products after that. My skin can be really sensitive ?
I am starting to worry about my wrinkles, though … haha.
Awesome post, as always!
