With the same unmistakable skinSense scent that we’ve come to know and love – new Anti-Ageing Retinol Serum is self-confessed skincare geek Abi cleeve’s latest launch. Featuring as QVC’s Beauty Pick Of The Month Throughout February 2019. QVCUK hand select a product each month and showcase it with an unmissable saving on the usual price. This month skinSense new Retinol Serum will be £28 with free P&P (Usual price £39).
If you’re not using Retinol as part of your skincare routine, then it’s time you started.
Retinol is pure vitamin A and is the darling of anti-ageing ingredients. It’s said that no other is more effective at tackling the signs of ageing including sun damage, enlarged pores, fine lines/wrinkles and general appearance.
Award-winning skinSense claim its concentrated serum is formulated with a “highly active, double encapsulation of pure Retinol”. Now, here’s the interesting bit – In simple terms, when Retinol is encapsulated, its ability to get where we need it is supercharged. Effectively housed in a cyclosystem complex which offers ingredient protection far superior to other encapsulation processes. This allows the Retinol to be delivered beneath the surface of the skin targeting skin cells for that all-important cell renewal.
Retinol in its regular form can become unstable when exposed to UV or general pollutants in the air, impairing its effectiveness.
Encapsulation shields the retinol and protects efficacy for improved results. Couple all that with ground-breaking Lamellar technology which forms an invisible film around the active ingredients and locks in the anti-ageing benefits. Thus ensuring the Retinol remains in the skin throughout the day.
If you’re seeing the first signs of ageing, then it’s time to do something about it.
Step up your skin maintenance with a hard-hitting approach. Target lines, wrinkles and uneven skin tone with active Retinol – 0.3% to be exact. At this concentration level, you’ll start seeing improvement as the skin is resurfaced over time. Start slowly and build up to continuous nightly use for best results.
Annoyingly, as we age, our skin loses its youthful “bounce”, which is partly due to a decline in collagen and elastin. However, if we’re able to actively speed up dead skin cell turnover we can brighten, plump and improve the overall appearance. Choose products that stimulate collagen and elastin production and put back some of that elusive, youthful bounce.
Retinol reignites the skin’s renewal process which is useful for improving acne and large or open pores.
Skinsense Retinol serum has a slightly thicker consistency than your average serum product and spreads evenly over the skin.
My preference is to use it alone but it’s fine if you want to layer it with your own choice of night cream. Just make sure you allow the Retinol serum to absorb fully first.
Last year I collaborated with Abi for a Q&A to find out more about her brands and what drives her passion for skincare – it’s an interesting read, so catch up with my Behind The Brand With Abi Cleeve if you have a minute.

This is such an interesting post Samantha! I’ve heard of Retinol but never knew much about it’s science, it sounds like skinSense have discovered a great way to get the best results. It seems like such an effective product and fantastic it works so quickly too. It’s really interesting to learn about using a high sunscreen and gradually building up the Retinol over time – I never knew any of this so thanks for educating me! I really need to get into a good skincare routine and adding an anti-ageing cream sounds like a good idea. Thanks for sharing your review and beautiful photos too! <3 xx

Thank you Bexa. I’m pleased to have highlighted Retinol for you! You’re right, it’s an interesting one and very effective at resurfacing the skin if you have any areas of scarring etc. Maybe something to think about going forward. A good skincare routine really does make all the difference. Thanks for your thoughtful comment and have a lovely weekend! x
My skin can’t live without retinol – it literally takes 5 years off the look of my skin. This one sounds lovely, for a gentle retinol dose!

That’s so good to hear!I’m glad you’ve had such fab results with retinol. it’s an interesting product, isn’t it! I’m finding good results with it too. Have a lovely weekend x
Ooh this sounds like a really interesting product. I’ve not started using anti-ageing products yet, but probably should so I’ll definitely be keeping this in mind. Having to use a high SPF after use worries me a little as I always forget to apply it to my face, but it might actually encourage me to use it more which would be a definite plus!

It’s a good idea to start thinking about anti-ageing skincare from around the age of 26, but in terms of sun protection, that’s something you can do at any age! I use a high factor on my face as a base for my makeup every day, rain or shine. Ultrasun has some great Face-specific products – no white residue and the protection lasts all day so that might be worth looking at. Thanks Sophie! Have a lovely weekend x
I use retinol cream and oils and love the results. It’s definitely an essential ingredient for anyone over 30. This sounds like a great introductory product xx

I am actually looking for more retinol skincare products with a relatively affordable price tag so excited to read about this! Thank you for sharing Samantha, hope you are having a fab weekend xxx

It’s one of those ingredients that we may not think of initially. However, it’s useful if you feel the skin could do with a bit of help in texture. I really find it’s great for smoothing my skin and improving the overall appearance. Plus, Abi’s Lamellar technology means it stays put all day. Thanks, lovely, have a fab evening x
I found this product a waste of money . It didn’t do a thing for me. Maybe I didn’t leave it on long enough before I applied my moisturised. I use their other products but I was very disappointed with the retinol

Hi Christine, I’m so sorry to hear of your disappointment in the retinol serum. Although we should see a result after around four weeks, it can sometimes take a little longer. 0.3% retinol is the industry standard but as with any skincare we will all find an individual result. I do hope you find a product which works for you going forward.
