With at least a couple more months of cold weather on the horizon, I’m certainly not ready to give up on winter woollies just yet.
I’m fully embracing the oversized trend this season so I’m sharing my own favourites in the shape of big, cosy scarves, as well as a few others I’ve got my eye on.
During the latter part of 2018 I decided to try cutting down on excessive, or unnecessary purchases and adopting a “one in, one out” policy which I must admit, seems to work for me (most of the time). This most definitely applies to clothing purchases as more often than not we can manage with what we already have, or, rekindle a love for those long-forgotten pieces and find new ways of styling them.
I’m a bit particular about my scarves these days, oversized or blanket style is more my thing.
Scarves are one item which I always seem to accumulate lots of! I went through my collection and found several which aren’t my style anymore or are just too well-worn to go another season. I donated them to charity and then treated myself to a few new scarves and felt a little less guilty about my purchases.
If you’ve missed the leopard print trend that’s sweeping the nation then come out from under your stone!
Once I’d decided on said print, but in scarf form, I searched online and eventually found this oversized scarf in River Island on my local high street. I couldn’t resist its contrasting coloured edging and a reasonable price tag of £18 In terms of the knit, it’s more of an open style but feels good quality for the price. It’s brushed for a little extra warmth and is a really good size for wrapping up in.
Another River Island pick, but a little more formal-looking this time. I love the colour block design of this blanket scarf, plus, it’s a smoother knit for a luxe feel. It comes in several colours and is currently on sale at £12 (original price £22) so it’s really worth snapping one up for next season!
If it’s not quite coat weather but there’s a chill in the air, throw on an oversized jumper, wrap a scarf around your shoulders and you’re good to go.
One colour combination which really appeals to me is camel and grey…
It almost doesn’t work, but at the same time looks so stylish, I think. Everyone should own a camel coat as in terms of coordinating your outfit it’s so versatile and can be worn with various colours. My grey Lambswool oversized scarf is from ASOS and is a really warm, soft knit. Currently on sale at £16 (original price £32).

I’ve got my eye on the Ugg scarf (above), but I may hold off until A/W19! What’s your current scarf situation? Do you prefer oversized? I’d love to know what you think of my picks.

I personally feel like I can’t pull off leopard print but it looks great on you! The other two are right up my street, the ASOS one looks so much more expensive than it is and you’re right about the River Island monochrome one- it’s gorgeous for more formal styling- I’m off to see if it’s still on offer!

Hey lovely! Thank you so much. I’m glad you liked the formal scarf, I did check the link before I published, however, I’m not sure my particular colour is available but there’s a different colour choice there which is still on offer. Have a lovely evening x
I love the leopard print one! I got a nice grey and black one from River Island last year (2017 really but I’m still saying last year!) xx

Really? RI does have some great scarves. I almost bought the colour block in another shade but held back as we’re heading toward spring! I know what you mean, 2017 does feel like last year still. Takes a while to go in, doesn’t it?! Thanks for reading x
You look so chic in all these oversized scarves Samantha! I love scarves but I do need to learn how to wear them 🙂 xx

scarves are so versatile! Once you get the hang of styling them in different ways you’ll be good to go! I’ll have a read of your latest, sounds interesting! x
I love the asos one! It looks so soft and far more expensive than it actually is. I’m a huge fan of oversized scarves. They’re so cosy to wear and look great when you style them too x

Thank you Sophie, and thanks for your lovely comment. The Asos is really warm and cosy to wear, I literally feel underdressed without a scarf at the moment! x
Your photos are always gorgeous Samantha! I’m totally with you on oversized scarves, I’ve got a few different ones which I love wearing throughout Winter. The leopard print one you’re wearing is my favourite I think! xx

Thank you so much, Tiffany. The leopard print is my favourite too, they all have their place but I find myself reaching for it more than the others at the moment. Good to hear you’re in agreement, you can’t beat oversized for the cold months. x
I love this post! I’ve never really thought about not wearing a coat and wearing a big chunky scarf but I’m definitely up for giving it a go now, I love your style. That leopard print scarf is definitely my fave pick, I have a full obsession with leopard print and have to hold myself back constantly from buying everything in it! Fab post as always.

Ah, so pleased to have given you an outfit idea! I often throw a scarf on instead of a coat, even though it’s winter, we do get the odd milder day so it’s perfect for those days. I don’t know what it is about leopard print but it never seems to go out of style does it!? Glad you love it too. Thanks Ellie x
Oversized scarves are SO warm and cosy, I love them! These all look so great on you Samantha, I especially love the leopard print, it is so stylish. Oversized jumpers and scarfs are the perfect combination when it’s not quite cold enough for winter coats, I’m off to check out River Island and ASOS, they are gorgeous and such great value. Thank you for sharing your beautiful scarves and fantastic photos as always! <3 xx

You’re always so kind. Thank you! I agree, oversized does keep you warm and cosy. I’d wear them round the house too but I do get really bad scarf hair and I end up with a big matt at the back of my head! xx
Ohh you have some gorgeous scarves! I love how you’ve styled them. I need a new scarf but I’m not sure if it’s too late in the season now to get one. I always struggle with scarves as they drown my 4’11 frame. But you’ve got some lovely ones xx

It is a bit late in the season, but it’s always worth snapping up a bargain for next year! Thank you lovely. Good things come in small packages remember, so you’ll be ok! Xx
I love oversized scarfs! I have one pink tartan one that I wear every time, it’s comfortable and warm. I’m loving how you’ve styled yours and the colours that you have! Also that last one is a bargain now it’s in the sale xx

Thank you! We always have a favourite, don’t we?! I reach for the print one the most but switch them up to go with different outfits which is what I love. Your tartan scarf sounds lovely! x
Part of why I love the colder months is because it’s sweater weather. Currently it’s summer here in Australia and to say we are melting is an understatement.

Oh me too! I love to wrap up in polo necks and chunky knits. Oh dear, I bet you are melting, hope you’re coping ok. Thanks for reading lovely x
I am so with you on the oversized scarves trend! They’re so cozy and stylish! I love the way you styled yours! That leopard print is too cute!

Thank you so much. We’re all in agreement on the leopard print! x
You look fabulous and cosy! I’m a big fan of that block-coloured scarf, but I’d probably be more likely to leopard print-up.
Getting to the end of my tether with this cold weather now. Spring can come whenever it likes ?
