What beauty junkie doesn’t love a good highlighter? I’m particularly fussy about mine and prefer a more grown-up approach. I don’t want whacky colours or too much glitter, and it’s a definite no to a white stripe. All I look for is a subtle sheen to literally highlight the high points of my face for a more natural, realistic look.
I like a highlighter with a buildable formula, one which will take me from day to night – not too much to ask for is it?
Inevitably, you’ll have to invest money in a good quality product as you know how it is – you tend to get what you pay for in life. The Anastasia Beverly Hills x Amrezy collaboration highlighter is no exception.
In case you’re wondering who Amrezy (Amra Olevic) is, I’ll bring you up to speed… Born in Montenegro and starting out as a counter assistant in Sephora, LA dweller Amrezy trained as a makeup artist, left her blog standing in 2014 for the love of Instagram and now has 5.5 million dedicated followers. Let’s just say she’s influential.
In the words of Amrezy herself…
“I live for the perfect glow – it’s a constant focus in my makeup routine. I’m always looking for the most luminous glow with a natural, second skin finish. This collaboration with ABH brings my highlighter dreams to life, and I’m so happy to share this sun in a compact with my Rezy riders”
This limited edition highlighter in Light Brilliant Gold achieves the perfect glow with that second-skin feel, its ultra smooth formula delivers a radiant finish. The packaging is luxe as you might expect – housed inside an inner box which folds Perfectly around the mirrored compact. The outer box has a pretty star design with “Anastasia” taking centre stage. The pan itself has a wave effect which perfectly catches the light and shows off the glow to its full potential.
“There’s just something about swatching a highlighter that gives me the wow factor, it mesmerises”
I like my highlighter to have a dense colour payoff as I hate the bitty effect – you’ll know what I mean. As soon as I swiped my finger across this one and applied it to the back of my hand I was wowed, tried it across my cheekbones and fell in love.
When it comes to my life-long love of makeup I like to keep it real and mix drugstore with high-end, but my heart will always lie with high-end. Buy cheap – buy twice so they say, and I don’t really want to do that. Having said that, this highlighter isn’t hugely overpriced for a substantial product, I would say it sits in the mid-range price bracket at £29 and just impossible to resist.
Described as a second-skin feel with its ultra fine formula, that’s seems a pretty accurate description and I found it lasted well on my skin.
Highlighter can be deceptive in its appearance as you can’t always see it without turning your head and looking at it with a sideways glance, so try not to go overboard. You need to see how it catches the light, before layering on more. Being on the neutral side this would be suitable for most skin tones, I’m pale of course, but my daughter is a little more olive toned and we both wear it well.
If you’re in the market for something a little more indulgent to add to your makeup collection then the Amrezy highlighter is a perfect choice…
“Stroke it across your cheekbones and a little on the sides of your forehead and you’ve got the perfect daytime glow. For evening, build it up to a sunglass-worthy gleam”
