Chasing The “Blogger Lifestyle”

faux succulents

When I look back at how my taste has altered since I began blogging, literally everything has changed and I’ve become so much more “wanty”. I wouldn’t say I’m materialistic as such, but I do like nice “things”, and I like to dress well – (when finances permit). We are only here once, so why not enjoy it? More and more I’m leaning towards a less cluttered lifestyle and lighter, brighter minimalistic living and generally, my style is evolving from shabby chic to well, less shabby and more chic.

No longer a “faux” pas

Pre-blog, I wouldn’t have entertained faux flowers around my home but fast forward and I’m now in love with vases of faux hydrangea and pots of foliage/succulents and orchids, I can’t get enough. Last year my mother-in-law bought me a beautiful large orchid for my birthday but somehow I managed to kill it off through the winter months, keeping house plants alive isn’t something which comes naturally to me.

Homesense is my favourite haunt for all kinds of gorgeous ‘faux-ness”. Recently, I’ve taken to adding faux foliage (or even some real sprigs clipped from the garden) to my hydrangea arrangements instead of just having three mop heads in a pot,  I’ll add in some greenery to break it up. I started with white flowers only but now I find myself choosing blues and burgundies. Faux flowers have become big business nowadays and are the perfect choice for those of us who can’t deal with real house plants. I’m fussy though – they have to look the part.

Chasing the blogger lifestyle

“We Are Influenced By What We See Every day In The Blogosphere”

It’s so true we can be influenced by the images we see every day. There seem to be certain trends among us, rose gold, white furniture, prints and for some – marble. My love for marble fizzled out mid-2017, but I recently purchased a marble candle with rose gold base, it’s subtle, and pale which I prefer so I couldn’t resist it. However, marble it’s still going strong as a blogger cliché.

“I want that Instagrammable Bedroom”

I want pristine white bedding with blush or grey accents, an oversized headboard and a luxurious blanket across the foot, I want light or white furniture, mirrors galore, typography and simple chic prints. My favourites are Desenio and Etsy for beautiful, tasteful designs. These have all been added to my wish list.

“I Want Blogger Nails”

I deserve them, don’t I? Mainly born out of frustration – I’ll prepare to take a shot which has my hand/s in focus and my nails are either bare, the polish is chipped or the colour doesn’t work for my shot. If I get my nails manicured properly and UV cured they should stay perfect for at least two weeks. After that, I’ll get them done again, and again – problem solved.

“I want pretty candles in glass jars – with lids”

Pretty candles, what’s not to love? I would never actually burn these fragrant ornamental candles as I’m conscious of the toxins and artificial fragrances they puff out, however, I love the look of them and again, they seem to have suddenly become more popular than ever. Homesense and TkMaxx are of course the place to go for pretty or jarred candles.

Chasing the blogger lifestyle

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. How about you? Has blogging altered your landscape or made you more “wanty”? I’d love to know what you think!

Omg this is 100% me! It was like I’m reading about myself! I’m with you on the marble – I still love bits of it but I’m not as obsessed as I was! Everything has to be rose gold, flowers have to be fresh and my bedroom is all very white and grey.

I started getting regular manicures July last year (I only know this because it says on my loyalty card) and I’m back in every 2-3 weeks! I can’t take product photos if my fingers are a mess! My need for more luxe clothing and accessories has also increased – I’m always saving for a new designer something!

Fab post lovely and good food for thought! Xxxxx

Thank you so much, glad you can relate! It would just be lovely not to have to mess around painting or repainting my nails for photos then scuffing them up whilst fiddling with the camera! I definitely want luxe in my life. What are we like?!! Xxx

  2. March 11, 2018 / 3:59 pm

I definitely feel influenced by most of the blogger images I see! But this can be also good because it challenges you to dress better, to be more creative, etc..

Yes!! Definitely agree with that. Dressing well is a form of good manners after all, so they say x

This is so true! I’m so with you on the nails too. I started getting mine done, so I’d feel more comfortable showing them in pictures, but I can’t keep up with the upkeep. It’s too expensive. This is such a great post xx

Thank you! I’ll probably go the same way tbh. My nails always seem to be chipped. I’ll see how it goes, like you say can be a bit expensive! Xx

It took me a while but I’m really influenced now too. Marble will always be a thing! My new candle is marble ? and I love it!

  6. March 12, 2018 / 2:14 pm

I loved reading this! I definitely get influenced by other bloggers’ photos, but I think we also need to find a way to make our photos and props unique from other bloggers, otherwise it’s hard to stand out!

    • Samantha
      March 12, 2018 / 2:55 pm

Yes definitely!! That’s why I stepped away from the ol’ marble backgrounds and flowers everywhere! It was good while it lasted though. I go through phases with my pics. Currently loving the David Bellamy look peering through the undergrowth ?

I have literally been nodding my head to all of this. It’s funny because I am just in the process of completing my Spring home decor guide and that’s exactly what I realised, my tastes have changed – wanting everything in white being one of them!

      March 12, 2018 / 9:41 pm

So try isn’t it! White is definitely the way to go, plus it’s much better for bouncing light around the room so better pics! Thanks for reading lovely, my blog isn’t very happy as my pipdig theme updated and I’ve lost my sliders and menu so hope you managed ok. Still waiting on their response, you know how it is! X

Loved this post! I’ve definitely become more ‘wanty’ since starting blogging. I’m always seeing things on Instagram and thinking I must have it. Our flat is now full of fake flowers, I never thought I’d have so many. Anything for the blog haha. I’ve also bought so many candles recently but I never want to burn them! x

  10. March 13, 2018 / 9:31 pm

Damn this is so me! Marble and copper accents in the white, grey and pink bedroom is definitely a desire I have snagged from influencers! That a love for candles I cannot afford!

Oh and painting the whole house white is another! You’ll have to treat yourself to a candle occasionally. Thanks for reading x

  11. March 15, 2018 / 12:12 pm

Omg this is so true! I’m so into rose gold and marble at the moment because of Instagram, also I’ve been saving money to buy candles because some of them are ridiculously expensive (lol!) and I wish I had an Instagrammable bedroom so I could take all my blog pictures haha! Fab post x

    Definitely, especially the bedroom one!

Always an interesting topic. It shows our evolution. It’s true that watching all those instagram and blogger pictures it makes me want to tag along. But that rebellious being in me wants to be a bit different nonetheless haha! xoxo Sarah

It’s good to be different! I’ve always been into shabby chic but I’ve really gone off the scruffy look since blogging. Slowly updating my house haha. Yes, instagram is very influential as you say. Thanks for reading lovely xx
