French skincare always seems to have that je ne sais quoi doesn’t it? That certain something and an air of style.

My parents have lived in France for many years, and yet surprisingly, I’ve only once ventured into their local “pharmacie” to see what was on offer. However, I have sampled French brands which are more commonly known here in the UK with the likes of Caudalie and Nuxe, both being available to buy on the high street.

Evoluderm isn’t a brand I’d heard of as it remains close to its Parisien roots. I was keen to find out more and although I needed to translate much of what I found, here’s what I know so far: Family owned Evoluderm was created in 2004 with the ambition to position at the fairest price, making it accessible for all. Interestingly, the word Evoluderm is the contraction of “Evolution” and “derma”. Ever evolving to bring formulas suited to different skin types and suitable for the whole family.

When I was offered a surprise box of French skincare treats, I thought it would be something a bit different to try.

I was very kindly sent a selection of products suited to my dry/dehydrated skin. Also in my box – a little-branded pocket mirror and a lightweight shoulder bag which was really thoughtful. I’ve been using all of these products for around four weeks now so that I can share my honest review today.

Precious Oil Exfoliating Face Cream

When it comes to exfoliating my face, I tend to favour an enzymatic formula, as I’m always conscious of the delicate facial skin. Occasionally, I’ll use a mechanical or “physical” formula and I find if I’m very gentle, switching between the two works well for me.

Something else I’m very aware of is the use of microbeads in exfoliant products so with this in mind, I checked the ingredient list and I was pleased to find the two products I have contain pumice particles. I haven’t used an exfoliator containing pumice before, (that I’m aware of) so this is something new to me.

I’ve been using it gently, twice a week as per direction. I gently massaged the cream into my skin, avoiding the eye area and finally rinsed with warm water. My skin was left feeling soft and felt smooth after use. I found the pumice particles fairly sparse but I liked the cream consistency which felt nourishing on my skin. Precious Oil Body Scrub

Evoluderm claims its scrub rids skin of impurities and dead cells, whilst respecting the most sensitive of skins. Enriched with Glycerin and vegetable oils, this body scrub forms a protective film on the skin which soothes and moisturises. Once exfoliated, skin is soft and glowing.

We should already know the benefits of exfoliation, it’s something I do regularly and without fail.

I’ve been using this body scrub in the shower three times a week for maintenance over the last four weeks. I’m fanatical about exfoliating as the benefits are so visible, because of this, I like to think my skin is in pretty good condition, but as always, there’s room for improvement.

I found the pumice particles in this scrub are again, fairly sparse and not my preferred  “wet sand” texture but, surprisingly, left my skin smooth, soft and hydrated after use. For me, the scent is distinctively Coconut (although not listed). Argan oil is not a favourite scent of mine so fortunately, it doesn’t come through with this product.

Precious Oil Cream Face Mask

Evoluderm claim, your dry skin will be soothed and nourished, with a soft and creamy texture, this mask offers a moment of indulgence and relaxation, enriched with Argan and Primrose oils to hydrate the skin.

Whilst face masks have their place in my beauty regime, albeit infrequently, they aren’t a product I generally reach for. However, I was very kindly sent this Precious Oil Cream Mask to try, and I was keen to see if it would hydrate my skin as promised. I’ve applied the mask three times a week after cleansing – as directed, I prefer to use a face mask in the mornings so that I can apply it and then continue with my morning routine. It’s recommended to apply the mask and leave for 10-15 minutes, before removing with cotton pads. This allows the skin to remain hydrated.

Other than the odd dry, patchy area I don’t really have any skin concerns as such so I’ll have to admit, I didn’t notice a dramatic improvement, however, removing the product with cotton pads is what made the difference for me in terms of continued hydration. My skin felt lovely and soft after use.

If you love to use face masks, I would recommend trying this one, particularly if you like a coconut scent to your skincare. My 100ml tube is a good size and has lasted really well. Shop Precious Oil Cream Face Mask

Karité Beauty Oil With Shea Butter

Evoluderm claims, that this all-purpose Shea butter beauty oil is naturally rich in A, E, F and K vitamins to hydrate and revitalize skin, leaving it clear and beautifully soft.

Vitamin E helps skin stay balanced and clear. Vitamin A boosts collagen, hydrates and protects the skin from premature ageing, while vitamin F is known for its revitalizing properties. This beauty oil offers UV protection (SPF ~6) and provides the skin with essential fatty acids (oleic, stearic, palmitic and linolenic acids) and nutrients necessary for collagen production; protect and nourish the skin to prevent drying. With long-term use, many people report skin softening, strengthening and wrinkle reduction. Non-irritating, non-greasy and non-pore clogging, it quickly absorbs into the skin. Great for Face, Body, Scalp and Hair.

My usual go-to body moisturiser is a jar of raw, cold-pressed organic coconut oil, that said, I do love to indulge in other products which I haven’t tried before. Since I love to include oils within my skincare regime this multi-tasker is my favourite of the products I’ve tried. Karité Beauty oil is enriched with vitamin E and Shea butter and smells wonderful, think cocoa butter.

I’ve been massaging it into my skin post-shower and I must say, I quite like it! it’s so convenient to use, just flip the lid and away you go. Some oils can linger on the skin a little longer than wanted, but I found the Karité oil absorbed quite quickly. My skin felt nourished and hydrated after use. Shop Karité Beauty Oil

Floral Toning Lotion

Evoluderm claims rose water moisturizing Lotion Tonique removes impurities provides the necessary moisture and tightens pores. Suitable for sensitive skin.

Toning is a crucial part of my cleansing regime, even when using micellar water for convenience – I will always tone before applying my skincare.

This alcohol-free rose water tonic smells gorgeous and is really enjoyable to use. Pour onto a cotton pad and swipe over the entire face and neck, removing any cleanser residue and to freshen up. My skin is left feeling soft and fresh, ready for moisturising. I’ve been using it in the mornings, as the scent is really uplifting and perfect for morning skin care. This 250ml bottle is a good size and four weeks on I still have around a third left. Shop Floral Toner

Brilliance Illuminating Shampoo

Evoluderm claim it formulated Brilliance Shampoo to revive the natural radiance of lacklustre hair. Natural silk, an intense concentration of moisture, brings softness and vitality to the lengths. The light texture acts as an extreme shine elixir on the fibre and leaves the hair silky, supple and easy to style. Your hair will be enhanced with light and radiant with beauty.

I love trying new hair products, particularly with hair being in focus fairly often here on The Beauty Spyglass – my hair is my crowning glory after all. I found this shampoo lathers well and has a pleasant, feminine scent. It’s clear and housed in a bright pink bottle. In terms of a noticeable difference to my hair, I didn’t see a remarkable change, but for an inexpensive shampoo it cleansed my hair well and left plenty of movement once dry. Such a great round up of products here and yes French skincare is so classy. That’s an interesting tip to remove the mask with a cotton pad so that your skin remains hydrated. Although that may be specific to this product I bet you could do it with other masks too x

Hi Gloria, oh that’s a shame your other half broke the pump! Evoluderm seems to be a little elusive in the UK, there is a website which sells some of the range, click any of the shopping links in my post and have a look there. Otherwise try the official Evoluderm website as they do deliver worldwide. Failing that you’ll have to keep an eye out when you’re shopping in TKMaxx next and hopefully the Gel Douche will show up soon for you! x

    Hi Samantha,

Great to read about French parapharmacy brands, I grew up in Paris and have seen a huge rise in awareness of these brands in the UK. I’m re-discovering Avene at the moment – it helps that they’re more readily available in the UK now!
