L’Oréal Professionnel Steampod 2.0

Showing the L'Oréal Steampod Steam vents

Quite recently, I mentioned the L’Oréal Professionnel SteamPod 2.0 when I wrote about the five products I’m currently lusting after. We all have them, you know the ones, those we would love to own but are just out of reach for us. I’ve been thinking about purchasing this for a while, but couldn’t really justify the cost as there’s always something else which needs buying. Unfortunately, hair styling tools are placed on the back burner!

Then, L’Oréal contacted me and offered to send me the Professionnel SteamPod to try. It felt like Christmas had come early. I didn’t have to wait either as it arrived the very next day.

The L’Oréal SteamPod is not a new styling tool and the original has been around for a few years.

The older version has been replaced with the new generation Steampod 2.0, boasting several new features, including more heat settings and is a lighter more compact design for easier handling.

I  have really long hair and so I’m always looking for different ways to style it.

I tend to flit between straight, a loose wave or “shaggy” for want of a better word. I like to curl my hair, brush it through and then shake it out. That tends to be my signature look. Annoyingly, my hair is never the same twice. Some days it’s great, others the curl or wave won’t hold – particularly if there’s moisture in the air. I can literally be outside for five minutes and my waves are straight. Then there are those unexplained bad hair days which we all suffer with.

As soon as I knew the Steampod existed, I wanted it.

I’ve always used GHD’s to straighten my hair but recently I’ve been getting a little bored with the typical straightening iron. That’s when this particular styling tool hit my radar. I love the SteamPod concept and I was intrigued to see the difference between the two. Things are definitely looking up as now when it comes to straightening, waving or curling my hair the SteamPod has very quickly become my ultimate styling tool. It does everything I need, It straightens my hair effortlessly but equally, I can use it to produce big soft curls or waves. The constant steam ensures moisture isn’t stripped from my hair, keeping it in the best possible condition.

The new generation SteamPod has five heat settings as mentioned earlier and the temperature is reached quickly. As you can see there are Steam ducts are along one side next to the comb. Straightening my hair is quick and easy. In fact, my GHD’s have now gone by the wayside. I find the SteamPod Is just so much quicker and easier to use, it’s comfortable to hold and has that high quality feel to it.

L’Oréal recommends using distilled water in the pod itself to prevent any limescale build up which could block the ducts impairing the function. Simply slide the water cartridge off to fill, or just lift the lid and fill it with sufficient water up to the level. Close the lid and press the ‘on’ button – which can be found on the inner handle. The SteamPod lights up to show it’s on. Choose your preferred heat setting, Wait a few minutes and you’re ready to go. You’ll hear a slight whirring sound start-up as you use it on each section of hair. The Pod also has three suction pads on its base to keep it steady on the surface it’s placed on.

For creating loose waves, personally, I’ve found it more successful to straighten each section lightly first before starting.

My hair is a little on the fine side so this way the comb glides through my hair without snagging. It’s a case of trial and error. In terms of creating waves, it can take a little practice if you’re not used to using the straightening iron method and can be a bit fiddly, to begin with. There are plenty of tutorials online and on the L’Oréal website where you can see a demonstration if you’re not sure of the technique.

L’Oréal recommends using the specially designed products which I’ve linked to at the foot of the post. Here’s a little about those:

L’Oréal Professionnel SteamPod Replenishing Cream

For Sensitised Hair has been specifically designed and formulated to be activated by the L’Oréal Professionnel Steampod for an anti-frizz effect that lasts for up to three days.

L’Oréal Professionnel SteamPod Serum

Use L’Oreal Professionnel Steam Pod Protective serum as a finishing product on damaged areas and hair ends for a taming effect.

Protective smoothing serum: nourishes damaged and weak areas of the hair fibre and helps protect the hair during the straightening process. The formula is enriched with avocado oil and apricot kernel oil.
The creams are enriched with Pro Keratin technology.

My overall experience with the new generation Professionnel SteamPod has been great.

I haven’t experienced any issues at all. I will continue to use mine and enjoy fabulous hair from now on. If you’re considering trying it, I would say go for it if you can. I don’t think I could be without mine now.

It really is. I hadn’t used a steam tool before either but using Steam ensures the moisture level in the hair isn’t stripped as it would be using a regular straightening iron. My hair is finer and highlighted so it’s a little so can be fragile. I’ve used this now several times to both straighten and wave and my hair doesn’t feel and worse for it. If you could do with updating a current straightening iron might be worth investing in this one.

      Thanks for reading Jessica xx

I must admit I’m not great at creating a proper curl but I’m okay with the looser wave. The more I use it the better I’ll get I imagine. Thanks so much xx
