Palmer’s Olive Oil Formula Hair Care

Samantha holding the three Palmer's products in her hands.

It’s been a while since I’ve talked about hair care on my blog, so, today I’m doing just that.

If you follow me regularly you’ll know I’m generally a salon brand kind of girl, however, using those products can be expensive, especially as I have long hair. I get through lots of product. When I’m out of salon shampoo I will always pick up some drugstore shampoo as a top up and usually keep some on hand in my bathroom.

Palmer’s is a brand I know and love and regularly use the iconic Cocoa butter body lotion (think chocolate)! So when I was asked if I would like to try some products from the range I couldn’t be happier! I have the Olive Oil Formula smoothing shampoo, replenishing conditioner and a leave-in conditioning spray.

I’m using drugstore products at the moment so I started using this straight away.

I’m always a little nervous using a new product as I really don’t want to have to suffer a bad hair day on account of trying something new! My hair is very long, not many layers and quite heavily highlighted so it can be dry and is generally damaged, although I like to think it’s in pretty good condition or at least appears that way. This olive oil range is suited to dry frizz prone hair which can be unruly. I guess my hair loosely fits into this category.

Palmer’s say: Extra virgin Olive oil is a powerful natural ingredient used since ancient times to give hair strength and brilliant shine. This moisturising shampoo smoothes out frizzy hair, replenishes moisture and nutrients. Also removes product build-up. The balanced blend of extra virgin olive oil, hair keratin amino acids and vitamin E cleanses thoroughly and leaves hair softer with a smoother texture, easier to style and healthier and stronger.

Extra virgin olive oil is combined with soybean oil and keratin amino acids to protect hair from environmental aggressors and hot styling tools. Hair becomes shinier with extra bounce, softer, less frizzy and easier to style. Jamaican black castor oil has a strong lipid content which helps relieve dry itchy scalp while protecting hair from styling damage. This range contains no Sulfates, parabens, phthalates, mineral oil gluten. Palmers is also a cruelty-free brand. What’s not to love?!

This olive oil formula was winner of the “your Hair” awards in 2013.

All three of these have a lovely fresh scent which is very enjoyable! I always shampoo my hair twice and get a really good lather so I was pleasantly surprised with this. It’s quite a loose consistency but it lathered up really well. I followed with a second shampoo-ing and again plenty of lather. No problem with rinsing. I didn’t get that squeaky clean feeling but to be honest that’s not often something I experience anyway! The replenishing conditioner consistency seemed pretty usual.  I smoothed it through my hair and gently combed through with my scalp comb. I always leave my conditioner on while I wash etc. So it can work it’s magic for a few minutes before rinsing.

I found this conditioner really lovely. My hair needs a good conditioner, otherwise, it can be a very time-consuming process combing it through whilst wet as it tends to bunch together in mats. Anyone with hi-lights knows what I mean! I was pleased to find my comb went through my hair quite happily. I finished off with the leave in conditioning spray. I used the spray sparingly at first and with some trepidation as usually, my hair hates anything like this added it this stage and ends up feeling chewy and lack-lustre when dried. Not with this… Oh my gosh, I love the spray! It didn’t weigh heavy on my hair whatsoever and I was surprised to find my hair was really swishy, shiny and soft. I even swished my hair around purposefully in front of Dan to see if it would prompt a comment but you know what men are like!

I’ve continued to use these products every day and still enjoy the same great result.

Also, my daughter (who has very long fine hair but lots of it ) has been using the conditioning spray too and it has the same lovely effect on her hair leaving it swishy, soft and shiny.

I wasn’t really aware of Palmer’s hair range until now but as this is a brand I trust I would definitely look to repurchase from this range for my drugstore top up! I Really liked the fresh feel of the products and packaging and I particularly love the conditioning spray! I’m using it more liberally now as I know there’s no problem with it feeling heavy on my hair. It’s really lasting so well too!

I didn’t even know they did a haircare range! This is really interesting as I was talking to my hairdresser today about not being happy with my current shampoo and conditioner! My hair gets greasy quite quickly though so wondering if this would be ok for me. Probably worth a try though!! Great post as always xx

Wow, I’ve never heard of this line before. I’m pretty content with my current shampoo, but I’m always looking for a good conditioner since my hair is really thick. Thank you for sharing the find!!😀
